Difference between UVA, UVB and UVC

Public health concerns have intensified efforts to prevent the transmission of infections that are completely or partially airborne. A long history of investigation concluded that when used correctly, ultraviolet germicidal radiation can be safe and highly effective in disinfecting, thus preventing the transmission of a variety of airborne infections. What do we mean, though, by ultraviolet radiation?

UVA, UVB AND UVC rays

Ultraviolet (UV) light is a short wavelength light that is invisible to the human eye. When it comes to wavelengths, the lights in our homes and outdoors correspond to a longer wavelength, while X-rays coincide with a shorter wavelength. Ultraviolet (UV) light positions itself between the two.

The sun emits three different types of ultraviolet light: UVA, UVB and UVC. UVB rays are associated with sunburn unlike UVA rays which cause skin aging and wrinkles. While the first two are released into the atmosphere at various intensities, UVC light is almost completely absorbed by the Earth's ozone layer, so it's generally what people are least familiar with, but it's no less powerful.

In the late 1800s it was discovered that UVC light could actually be used for disinfection with the ability to kill up to 99.9% of germs. The technology was used in the early 1900s in Europe for water purification and is still used today.

A UVC lamp works by penetrating the thin wall of a small microscopic organism and destroying its nucleic acids. This disrupts the structure of the DNA and kills it or renders it unable to reproduce and therefore harmless. As a result, the use of UVC light to disinfect and kill germs has many applications.

 HiSafe UVC products

We have developed two innovative solutions, extremely effective for sanitation, especially useful in this period of health emergency. These are the UVC turret and Sanibox.

As we explained in our article about our UV-C Tower , this solution ensures rapid and chemical-free sterilization thanks to the use of powerful UVC rays. Particularly suitable for sanitizing all surfaces in a room, including the objects in it.

The second product is Sanibox, an extremely valid tool for all those situations where the need arises to disinfect objects, papers or documents in an ecological way, without the use of chemical agents, alcohol or liquid vapors. Suitable for all those places where documents touched by strangers are exchanged daily.
